Hysteroscopy is a type of surgery where
a camera is inserted through the cervix into the uterus to
carefully explore the inside of the uterus. Over the last
ten years, hysteroscopic surgery has evolved from surgery
used only for diagnosis, to the ability to perform complicated
operations without any abdominal incisions. We now can remove
fibroids and polyps, permanently burn the lining of the uterus,
and remove uterine scar tissue, all through a camera that
is only placed through the cervix into the uterus. The benefits
of this surgery are a three day recovery time, no incisions
on the abdomen, and considerably fewer operative complications.
